‘Sunday Night Football’ Sacks Scheduled L.A. Rams-L.A. Chargers Game On January 1 In Favor Of Steelers-Ravens
The NFL said Sunday that it is implementing flex scheduling for next week’s primetime Sunday Night Football Matchup NBCThe plan is being jettison. Los Angeles RamsLos Angeles Chargers game to be replaced by a Pittsburgh Steelers-Baltimore Ravens matchup with more playoff implications.
The Rams-Chargers game, while pitting rivals who share the major Los Angeles media market, won’t be as meaningful. The Chargers are at 8-6, but can still secure a playoff spot if they win on Monday against the Colts. Monday Night FootballThe defending Super Bowl champions, the Rams are currently at 5-10, and despite a narrow win over Denver on Christmas Day, have been eliminated from postseason contention.

The Steelers-Ravens will now begin at 8:20 p.m. on January 1, featuring fierce rivals still trying to make it into the playoffs (Baltimore has already secured a wildcard spot). ET on NBC. The Rams-Chargers match at SoFi Stadium will begin at 4:25 PM ET/1:25 PM PT. It will be televised by CBS.
The NFL’s flex schedule allows the league to “ensure quality matchups” for SNF, broadcast TV’s most-watched show. It is allowed twice: between Weeks 5-10 in the regular season and Weeks 11-17 when the playoff spots will be determined.
The Chargers have been flexed in SNF This season, there will be two slots.
The NFL made the call Sunday, when it showcased three nationally televised games on Christmas during its Week 16: the Rams beat the Broncos 51-14, Green Bay Packers beat the Miami Dolphins 26-20 to stay in the playoff picture, and Tamp Bay and Tom Brady are playing the Arizona Cardinals on this week’s SNF.
