‘Still too early to make a proper judgement’

Former Chelsea assistant manager Jody Morris says it is still too early to know how good the Blues are, but that there has been noticeable progress in front of goal.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side enter the international break on 21 goals scored in 12 games, 11 fewer than Premier League leaders Manchester City.

“I think it’s still too early to make a proper judgement about where we’re at,” Morris told BBC Radio 5 Live’s Football Daily.

“I think our biggest problems are when teams show us massive respect and they sit off and the onus is on us to break them down. I do think we’re making strives forward towards that final third and being a bit more critical.

“Getting that result and coming back so many times against Manchester City can only leave us in a much better position after this international break and give the players huge confidence.

“Hopefully going forward we’ll see that level of performance.”

On Chelsea’s goalscoring, The Athletic’s Simon Johnson added: “What has been noticeable is that at the start of the season it was seven goals in the first seven games[ scored].

“On one hand, you think that is terrible and they aren’t doing well going forward, but it was the amount of missed chances they were struggling with. In the last eight games, they have scored 19 times. There is a lot more belief in the final third.”
