Taylor Selfridge, Wharton’s girlfriend and their third child Maya were born on June 1. Ten days later, they discovered that Maya had tricuspid arrhythmia.
Wharton explained that the condition “It happens when the heart’s tricupid valve doesn’t develop” and the valve plays an important part in helping the heart function by “pumping blood between the body and the lungs.”

Selfridge had previously disclosed that she was approximately 22 weeks pregnant when Maya became ill. Instagram post.
“Our lives were turned upside down in seconds,” she stated, noting that Maya “came into the world doing so much more than expected” and that with incredible cardiologists they were able to have a stent placed instead of first open heart surgery.
Selfridge explained that the first procedure was performed on their 6-day-old daughter. She felt “very helpless” caring for her child.
Selfridge shared with her followers that she held her baby for the first time at five days old. We’ve been on a rollercoaster ride for the last nine days, and it has been the most difficult week of my life as a mom.

Wharton stated that Maya will need another open-heart operation when she turns 3 or 4. This is to ensure her heart remains in the best possible condition.
Maya and her family were already in the hospital getting ready for Maya’s major surgery.
Wharton shared with us that Maya was admitted to the hospital for “right and Left Heart Catheterization with Angiography, using plastic tubes in her heart to measure pressure and oxygen level.”
“We are taking it one day at time.” one procedure at a time. But on the right track 👏🏽,” Wharton added at the time.
