‘Secret Lives of Mormon Wives’ star Jen Affleck says she’s the new ‘Jenny From the Block’
Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez may be getting divorced, but the actor still has another Jennifer Affleck in his life — kind of.
Jen Affleck, a cast member on Hulu’s new reality series “The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives,” is married to one of one of the actor’s relatives.
While introducing herself in an episode of “The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives,” Jen Affleck says her husband, Zac Affleck, is Ben Affleck’s second cousin.
“I’m definitely the first Jennifer Affleck. Not only that, her middle name is the same as mine: Jennifer Lynn Affleck. I don’t know, maybe we can convert them to the church,” she says on the show.
In a Sept. 1 TikTok, Jen Affleck seemed to poke fun at the connection. She mouths along to Lopez’s song “Jenny From the Block” while getting highlights.
“The new Jenny from the block,” the caption reads.
Lopez, who is changing her last name back to her maiden name, filed for divorce on Aug. 20.
The TikToker also filmed a comedic video about their connection in 2022.
In the clip, which also features her daughter, Jen Affleck dances while the following message comes on the screen: “When you thought you were going to be the next JLO.. But instead… She stole your name.”
What is ‘The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives’?
The series follows eight women who count themselves members of #MomTok, a contingent of TikTok comprised of Mormon mom influencers.
While speaking with TODAY.com, Jen Affleck said she “slowly started hanging out” with her co-stars once she auditioned and was cast on the show.
“We didn’t know if the show was gonna be a for sure thing, so I just ended up being friends with them, just out of this connection. And then the show did happen, and now we’re, like all best friends,” she said.
The mother of two says she “forgot the cameras were there” while filming and was her “complete authentic self.”
Who are Jen and Zac Affleck?
The couple met on a Mormon dating app, per a TikTok video describing their meet cute.
Zac Affleck spoke about his initial feelings for Jen Affleck in the video, saying, “From the day I met Jen, I knew she had this crazy potential to just touch people’s lives, to make people feel loved, to kind of have an impact on people.”
Jen Affleck was 18 at the time, she shared on Instagram.
The two announced their engagement on social media on Jan. 1, 2019 and tied the knot seven months later in July 2019.
Zac Affleck is currently in medical school. In an interview with TODAY.com, Jen Affleck opened up about her role as the breadwinner in her family.
“I definitely have felt a lot of pressure, especially with my husband going to med school. Med school is not cheap,” she said.
When the mother of two got the opportunity to become an influencer and star in Hulu’s new reality series, she jumped on it “because I truly wanted to be able to provide for my family (and) provide for my husband to get through med school.”
Today, they share two children
Jen Affleck became a mother at 21 years old when she welcomed her daughter Nora.
She reflected on the milestone in May 2024 on Instagram, writing, “Life surprised me with motherhood at 21, but I quickly realized it was all part of God’s beautiful plan. Here’s to embracing the greatest calling and blessing that life can offer.”
Jen and Zac Affleck later went on to have a second child, a son named Luca, in July 2023.
To celebrate Father’s Day in 2024, the mother of two posted a video montage for her husband on Instagram and penned the following caption: “We were so young when we first became parents, with lots to learn, but Zac has always been there every step of the way. Even with dedicating time to school, he’s never wavered in giving Nora and Luca everything they need… getting to see him take on the role of a stay-at-home dad this year has been truly special.”
