Raiders draft Texas Tech EDGE defender in the most recent PFF mock draft

It seems unlikely that the Raiders will win another game with Derek Carr on the bench for the last two games. And with a record of 6-11, that will mean the Raiders will earn a top-10 pick in next year’s draft.

What position might the team draft? What position would make the most sense?

A recent mock draft by Trevor Sikkema of Pro Football FocusHe had the Raiders pick at No. 9, in the 2023 NFL Draft. The Raiders selected Tyree Wilson from Texas Tech as their defensive end. This is Sikkema’s take on the fit.

“The Raiders are a complete mess, and this pick could go in so many different directions. If they move on from Derek Carr, they’ll be in the quarterback market. However, we do know for certain that they need defensive-line help.

Wilson’s game may be inconsistent, but the 6-foot-6, 275-pound edge player brings a rare combination of size (7-foot wingspan), flexibility and explosiveness to the table.”

The Raiders need to be bigger and faster on the defensive line. Maxx Crosby is still the only player who can make plays consistently and he requires help. Wilson, who can run and play to the quarterback, would make a great match for him.

The Raiders need to ask themselves if they can afford to spend more money on their defensive lines when they also need help at other positions. Or will they just choose the best player possible? It remains to be seen, though Wilson is a possible target for Raiders.
