After Christmas Day rains, 44 Filipinos are killed by floods and landslides.

MANILA (Reuters – The death toll from floods and landslides resulting from Christmas Day rains in southern Philippines rose to 44. There are 28 others missing, the national disaster agency reported on Friday.

According to a bulletin, damage to crops and infrastructure has been estimated at 1.36 trillion pesos ($24.4million).

On Christmas Day, heavy rains submerged villages and towns in the Visayas, Mindanao and Mindanao areas, forcing over 50,000 people from their homes.

According to the agency, although the floods have subsided, intermittent rains continue.

Ferdinand Marcos Jr. announced that he will visit the affected areas after his planned trip to China, Jan. 3 to 5.
