Organizing a pantry – clever pantry organization ideas and tips

Once you’ve sorted everything into its own container, it’s time to crack out the label maker – or make your own if you’d prefer. Labels on storage bottles make it easier for you to differentiate couscous, quinoa, and bulgar wheat from polenta. It is possible to know the difference but not everyone in your family. This will make it easier for you to avoid answering endless questions.

‘Labelled containers or drawers are a godsend, and will prevent you rummaging around to find what you’re looking for,’ says Katharine Pooley.

‘Try chalkboard labels or get yourself a label maker. Both options will make your pantry look “magazine ready” and help you know your plain from your self-raising’ adds Amy Wilson.

The labeling trend isn’t all aesthetics, it’s also geared to make your time well spent and hassle-free in the kitchen. You will have a neat, organized pantry if you label everything clearly. You can also snack smarter by labeling your pantry. For instance, if you label a bin ‘breakfast’, you will likely avoid placing a bag of potato chips in there!

“I would label glass containers and bottles made from recycled glass and avoid buying plastic. However, Tupperware’s are excellent for perishable goods like flour, sugar, rice, and spaghetti.’

“I recommend that storage baskets be labeled with traditional luggage labels or baskets with enamelware. These are great to store open packets, and keep any creepy crawlies out of your home,’ she says.
