No one in custody in mass block party shooting, 19 victims out of hospital

All 19 people who were hospitalized following the July 7 block party mass shooting in Detroit have been released, Detroit police said Saturday, adding that no one is in custody in connection with the shooting that left two dead.

In all, 21 people were shot at about 2:30 a.m. last Sunday near the intersection of Rossini Drive and Reno Street. Shanae Fletcher, 20, and Phillip Arnold Jr., 21, died of gunshot wounds, according to the Wayne County Medical Examiner’s Office. Nineteen others suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Detroit police are looking at forensic evidence and reiterated in a news release Saturday that they don’t believe the shooting was a random attack. Detroit Police Chief James White previously said there were multiple shooters, with nine guns and over 100 shell casings found at the scene.

The investigation into the shooting remains ongoing, police said.
