Movano takes on Oura in the Evie smart band designed ‘for ladies’

Health company Movano has teased Evie, its first smart ring was designed for fitness, health and cycling tracking. It is a strong competitor to the Evie. Oura’s latest smart ring The company also offers other wearables for health tracking, but it claims that the product is “made exclusively for women.” Movano intends to give a closer view next week at CES2023.

The ring became famous. debut Movano presented a similar design at CES 2022, with no name. However, Movano has since changed its mind on the price and other factors. It will sell the ring at a once-off price of $300, rather than using a subscription as it stated last year.

It provides many of the same health metrics as Oura’s ring, and other wearables from Apple. It can monitor heart rate, blood-oxygen and skin temperature variability. It also tracks sleep, period, and ovulation. The company promises that the app will allow wearers to get medical advice and will conform to medical device manufacturing standards.

John Mastrototaro CEO Movano said that Evie, as a medical device will be different than other wearables. “We have combined medical-grade biometric data with insights in a wearable that is comfortable and modern.”

Evie is a fitness tracker that can measure steps, calories burnt, and activities. Movano stated in the press release that Evie’s primary purpose was to provide a picture about overall health and “turn biometric data into actionable insight”.

The company also guarantees privacy and security when data are transferred to the cloud, or to providers of health care. The company is currently awaiting FDA approval, which will determine the release date. However, if that takes too much, the device may eventually be available as a health and wellness product. The Evie smart ring will only be released in the US to start with, but may come to other markets later — we should learn more about it next week at CES 2023.
