Knicks takeaways from Tuesday’s 126-121 OT loss to the Mavericks, including Quentin Grimes and Immanuel Quickley’s big nights

The team played one of the best games of the season, but the Knicks Another devastating overtime loss. Luka Doncic The Dallas Mavericks won 126 to 121 on Tuesday night.

Immanuel Quickley Had a double-double with 13 points and a career high 15 assists. Quentin Grimes Seven three-pointers were the key to his career-high 33 points. Doncic was even more impressive with his 60 point, 21 rebound and 10 assist effort.

These are some of the key takeaways.

– With Jalen Brunson Out with a hip injury Tom Thibodeau he was forced to shake up the initial five. Quickley was brought in to replace Grimes. Julius Randle, RJ Barrett?, and Mitchell Robinson.

– Thibodeau’s depth was really put to the test right away, as Barrett also ended up being ruled out for the night after suffering a hand laceration just two minutes into the game. Miles ‘Deuce’ McBride He was given some time off the bench.

Robinson had a good start against the Mavericks, scoring seven points. Randle was also a good start, scoring ten points and seven rebounds. However, he did get three fouls early.

After a bit of a slow start (2-for-9) the Knicks began to pick things up from behind the arc. With less than a minute left in the quarter, Grimes scored back-to-back triples to increase the lead to eight.

Doncic, however, was not having it with McBride. Half of the Mavs’ points were scored by Doncic in the quarter (16), and the Knicks led was reduced to two after the first, at 30-28.

– Both teams let it fly from downtown, and traded baskets to open the second quarter. Christian Wood Dallas was able to get it done with Doncic on the bench. But, Randle, McBride, Grimes and McBride all made it nine.

Dallas pushed back again, but New York held a strong second-half and led 63 to 55 at the break. Both teams were led by Randle (16 points and 10 rebounds), Doncic (22) and Randle (16) respectively. Quickley had 11 assists in just 22 minutes. Grimes made four threes and Robinson scored nine points. Dallas made just 7-of-24 shots from behind the arc at break.

Dallas made a strong start in the third quarter, as they have done throughout the season. Early on, the Knicks led by two after a 9-3 run. Randle and Grimes responded immediately to help the Knicks get on track.

Despite Doncic dropping 13 more points in the third, pushing his total to 35, New York led by 10 heading into the final frame. Randle, Quickley, Robinson and Grimes all had double-doubles, while Grimes tied his career high with 27 points.

– To start the quarter, the Mavs scored a 13-5 run and won. Spencer Dinwiddie Thibodeau had to call timeout when three points cut the lead down to four. Quickley made his third and final three shots of the game, pushing the lead to nine with four minutes to go.

Dallas was able to reduce the lead to three thanks to some costly errors and turnovers in the last minute. McBride made a clutch free throw and Dinwiddie hit a three to make it a one-point game.

McBride again was sent to the line, and he made two more clutch free shots. The Knicks then fouled Doncic who after hitting the first one he missed the second on purpose, but somehow grabbed the offensive rebound and knocked down a jumper to even things up at 115 and send the game to overtime.

Dallas took the lead at the start of overtime. This was their first lead since the quarter’s third quarter. The Knicks missed four of their six free-throw attempts in overtime.

New York desperately needed a stop on the final stretch. However, Randle’s reaching foul sent Doncic to the line, and Doncic increased the lead to 5. Dallas won the 126-121 victory because the Knicks ran out of gas.

Despite the loss the Knicks still received great performances from many different players.

Quickley scored 13 points and received 15 assists. Grimes made seven threes to reach a career high of 33 points. Randle had 29 points with 18 rebounds and Randle had 29. Robinson had 20 points with 16 rebounds and Robinson had 20. McBride scored 14 points.

Doncic did even better, leading all scorers with 60 points. He also had 21 rebounds and 10 assists.
