Joanna Gaines shares a photo from the Hospital and gives fans a Health Update

Joanna shared a photo taken from her hospital bed on Thursday explaining that she had injured her back while cheerleading in high school (“a basket toss injury turned back injury”), and that she has been dealing with the aftermath ever since.

Joanna explained that her first microdisectomy, a procedure to remove herniated discs from the lumbar spine, was performed in 2001. truly terrible—partly because she had to cancel her second date with her future husband Chip Carter Gaines. She had to go through the same procedure just two weeks before.

“My back has always been a joke and I was a little stressed because of the timing of the holiday season,” the HGTV star wrote on Instagram. “But I’m truly thankful for the forced rest throughout the busiest season of the year. It was a gift to just stay still, look at the wonder around me, and be still.
