Jerod Mayo turns down Panthers’ request for head coach interview

New England Patriots inside linebackers coach Jerod Mayo has reportedly turned down the Carolina Panthers’ request to interview him for their vacant head coaching job.

The acknowledgment was made by Boston Herald’s Karen Guregian Saturday afternoon

The Patriots announced Thursday that they are now a team. working towards extending Mayo long-term In an effort to keep him in New England.

It was assumed that the team would do everything possible to keep Mayo from moving for a job as defensive coordinator. However, it is not surprising that he decided to decline a head coaching position. Mayo has always been clear about his desire to become a head coach in NFL. The interview with the Panthers may have helped open the door to this possibility.

The possibility of a promotion within the Patriots team seems plausible. It is also possible that Mayo may be the next person to assume the New England head coaching position after Belichick retires into the sunset.

The Patriots are being more open than usual, so we may not have to wait for long answers.
