My car’s trunk is full of both students and instructors of yoga. yoga mats. Some I have acquired from friends and others, while some I bought myself. One mat has been there longer than others: My Lululemon Yoga mat.
I bought Lululemon’s The Mat 5mm Yoga Mat It was my first mat, three years ago. It’s the best mat in terms of quality, cushioned support, slip grip and durability. You can find the mat in Lululemon’s We Made Too Much section for $10 more.

The mat is made of a mixture of natural rubber, nylon, and polyester. It’s soft and stable, so it feels like you are practicing on a soft cloud. The rubber base, which is sustainably sourced, has a textured grip and molds to your body. It is non-slip and will not slide on the ground.
It’s the perfect thickness. While some lightweight mats can feel like you’re practicing right on the ground, this 5-millimeter one offers ample support and cushioning — as a post collegiate soccer player, it’s great for my sore knees (and anyone with stiff joints, for that matter).
The mat allows me to practice hot yoga with no towel. This is one of my favourite things. The mat has a grippy top layer that absorbs moisture, and it really does maintain that non-slip nature in high-sweat practices — a quality my other mats lack. It is easy to clean, even when I use it for hot yoga and beach classes. I simply wipe it with water and peppermint essential ointment and it comes out looking fresh each time.
It is 5.3 lbs heavier than the other mats. But, from what I understand, this is what makes it non-slip. This mat is so great that I can carry it around with me everywhere, even if I have to faceplant when holding Bakasana.
