Boston Basketball Partners announces the purchase of the team
This is the Boston Celtics’ historic day. Boston Basketball Partners, L.L.C. They announced the completion of the acquisition of the Celtics NBA basketball team from their previous owners in 2002.
Boston Basketball Partners is an investor firm that is comprised of Wyc Grousbeck, H. Irving Grousbeck and other members of the managing board. Stephen PagliucaThe Abbey Group, which includes Robert Epstein (consisting in Paul Edgerley and Glenn Hutchins), and James Pallotta, who purchased the team from Paul Gaston. In a press release, the investment group officially announced the transfer of the club.

“This is an amazing opportunity to be part of one of the greatest sports teams in history, and to try to use that position to do good things for the community we are a part of,” offered Managing Partner Steve Pagliuca.

The changing of the guard would be part of the recipe for the Celtics’ 17th championship, won a half-decade later in 2008.

This is also the day that Hal Crisler, former Boston Forward, was born. Born in Richmond in California in 1923 and raised in Iowa State, the Iowa State alum only played 4 games in the Celtics’ inaugural season 1946-1947.
Crisler averaged 1.4 points per game over that stretch — rest in peace.
