Arlo will end support for some of its older security camera models in April

Arlo’s Older security cameras will no longer be able to access future updates or some perks that they have enjoyed over the years. The company has now implemented a new policy regarding end-of-life for its products. As users reported on Reddit (via 9to5GoogleThe company sent emails to inform customers about the changes and to first affect the products: the Generation 3 (VMC3030), and Pro (VMC4030), cameras that were released in 2014, 2016 and 2016. These two models will no longer be eligible for the seven days of free Arlo cloud storage Arlo bundles along with their cameras, which will begin April 1, 2023. They will be the first to stop getting security updates and bug fixes, as well firmware and security updates.

It is available in its full announcement Arlo explained (PDF) that its cameras will be pulled four years after they were last mass-produced. The following models were affected by the policy: the Arlo Baby (ABC1000), Pro 2(VMC4030P), Q+ (VMC3040S), and Q (VMC3040P). The date of their end-of-life is January 1, 2024. On the same date, Audio Doorbell (AAD1001) and Arlo Lights will cease to be supported by the company.

It is important to note that users don’t need to throw them away as soon the dates arrive. They can still use the cameras to stream livestreamed videos and save clips locally with compatible Arlo bases stations. They will need to subscribe to Arlo Secure to access cloud storage. The cameras will also lose their features as they won’t receive firmware updates.

Arlo has also placed an EOL date on all its products. Additionally, the company will be discontinuing email notifications and E911 emergencies calling service from April 1st. Legacy Video Storage on AWS S3 will go away on January 1st in 2024. The company will give customers a 30-day notice of products that are affected by the EOL rules. This will allow them to decide whether they want to buy newer or keep using their current devices.
