Angelina Jolie fuels speculation of relationship with Corbynista rapper

Angelina Jolie has stoked rumours she is dating a Corbynista rapper after they attended her film’s premiere together.

The Oscar-winning actress was accompanied by Akala, the British musician and political activist, to the screening of Maria at the 62nd New York Film Festival held at the Lincoln Centre on Sunday night.

She subsequently posted photos on Instagram of Akala, 40, at a party for her company Ateller Jolie.

Akala has been an ardent backer of Jeremy Corbyn, endorsing the former Labour leader who he described as a “fundamentally decent human being”. In turn, Corbyn praised and shared an interview where Akala spoke on knife crime.

Jolie, 49, and Akala first triggered speculation of a relationship when the rapper was spotted accompanying the American actress and her daughters Zahara, 19, and Shiloh, 18, at Calabash Literary Festival in Jamaica last year.

This was reignited when the pair were seen leaving a hotel together during the Venice International Film Festival in August.

The pair’s latest outing was to the screening Maria, in which Jolie stars as the soprano, Maria Callas. It will be Jolie’s first time singing in a film.

Akala, who was born Kingslee James McLean Daley, is said to be in a relationship with talent manager Chanelle Newman, with whom he runs a production company.

The Mobo award-winning rapper and poet – who is the younger brother of fellow star Ms Dynamite – was born in West Sussex to a Scottish mother and Jamaican father.

Sources close to Jolie sought to dispel the dating rumours at the start of this week, telling People magazine that Angelina “is friends with him and his partner, Chanelle [Newman]”.

A second source said: “They share the same passion when it comes to social and humanitarian causes.

“They did several collabs over the years that focus on global issues like human rights. Angie speaks very highly of him”

Jolie is a former special envoy to the UN Refugee Agency, where she carried out more than 60 field missions, and launched the National Center for Refugee and Immigrant Children.

At the Maria premiere, Jolie was flanked by her son, Pax, 20, and daughter, Zahara. Not present were her children Maddox, 23, Shiloh, 18, nor twins Vivuenne and Knox, 16, whom she shares with Pitt, 60.

In 2002, Jolie adopted Maddox from an orphanage in Cambodia. Three years later, the couple adopted Zahara, who was born in Ethiopia and in 2006, they adopted Pax from Vietnam

Jolie recently revealed that her sons had actually helped out on the set of Maria.

She told The Hollywood Reporter: ‘They’ve done that quite a few times, and I think that’s good for them. Pax tends to do stills and he gets brought in, and Pablo was wonderful and recognized that he was good at it”.
