Russian attack on east Ukraine’s market kills women

KYIV (Reuters – On Monday, a Russian missile struck a market in Shevchenkove, eastern Ukraine. It killed a 60-year-old woman and left several others injured.

Telegram’s Suspilne posted footage that showed rescue workers working in large piles of rubble and burning wreckage. The footage was captured southeast of Kharkiv, the regional capital.

Oleh Synehubov (governor of Kharkiv) wrote on Telegram that “unfortunately, a 60-year old woman died”.

“All other victims were treated at the hospital. They are receiving medical attention. He said that rescue workers are continuing to remove the debris.”

He said that at least seven people were injured, including a thirteen-year-old girl.

Head of the presidential administration, Andriy Ermak also stated that one person was killed and posted a Telegram photo of the market in flames.

He criticised Russia’s attack and wrote: “Common terrorists.”

Reuters could not independently verify the reports and images from the attack immediately.

Suspilne stated that a local official said that at most three pavilions were destroyed during the attack. Also, that a shopping center was damaged but that Monday was not market day.

Russia, which invaded Ukraine 10 months ago, has not yet commented on the incident.
