Citizen’s latest smartwatch uses AI for alertness determination

Citizen announced the latest CZ Smart smartwatches, which include an AI “self-care advisor” built in to them. The YouQ app is a proprietary product that was created with IBM Watson Studio uses NASA technology to tell the wearer when they are alert and fatigued to help them “maximize” their performance. CZ Smart’s YouQ app uses IBM Watson’s neural networks to determine a user’s “chronotype”, which is the preferred timing of sleep and wake, over a seven- to ten-day period. This is done by processing sleep data as well as “alert score” information. These are generated by a specially designed alert monitor test. It is a consumer-version of NASA’s PVT+ test. The tests are “brief, gamified, and can be taken daily to measure the wearer’s alertness,” according to Citizen.

The YouQ app can then learn about your rhythms and habits by using this data. The app then uses that data to create a dynamic recognition system to suggest “Power Fixes,” actions or activities that will help the wearer reduce fatigue, improve alertness, promote better habits, and increase productivity. It will allow you to personalize the Power Fixes and, presumably, increase their effectiveness.

Only the second-generation CZ Smart watches have this technology. The first generation has it. launched The company has also acquired a number of other companies in 2020. CZ Smart Hybrid lineup). These are available in two sizes: 41mm casual and 44mm sport models. They come with silicone straps, links, and mesh bracelets. They feature a 1.3-inch AMOLED display, Snapdragon Wear 4100+ processors with eightGB of storage and 24+ hour battery life.

Sensor-wise you will get a gyroscope (altimeter), barometer, accelerometer and heart rate sensor. YouQ, Spoitfy and YouTube Music are all preloaded on the device. It works with either Android or iPhone.

Citizen did not specify the OS for this model. The previous model was made with Wear OS and was developed in partnership by Fossil. They will go on sale March 2023 in America, and pricing will be announced at a later time. At launch, the current CZ Smart was $395
