Emeka Egbuka gives interesting answers to the question of transfer
Surprisingly, the college football landscape is becoming more Wild West-like. This is surprising considering the NCAA’s history of dumpster fires. NIL, also known as Name Image and Likeness, is now the driving force.
While it’s not new for players to apply to colleges in order to receive more exposure or to be paid, it is now legal to make money as a player. There are still rules against “poaching” players that are not in the portal, but according to many, this hasn’t stopped anybody.
Emeka Egbuka, Ohio State’s receiver, confirmed that multiple schools have contacted him about possibly transferring. But that isn’t the most surprising thing. Egbuka’s response was a little less enthusiastic than one would expect from a top receiver on a College Football Playoff team.
Egbuka is a sophomore and has recieved 66 receptions for 1,039 yard and nine touchdowns. He has one year of eligibility remaining before he can bolt to the NFL and be another high-draft pick that Wide Receiver U is now known for, so when he said he was “content” at Ohio State a few raised their eyebrows noting the lukewarm response.
We’re not saying there’s anything to be worried about here, but you’d think you’d get a little different response from Egbuka if there were zero chance that some tampering was going on.
