New York City’s recreational marijuana sales begin

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul (D) announced First public sale of regulated products cannabis In the state started at Housing Works Cannabis Company, Manhattan’s East Village. This was the first licensed dispensary that opened for business. CNN reports. After Thursday’s official dispensary sale, the store began selling to the public at 4.20 p.m.

The dispensary is operated and owned by Housing Worksa non-profit organization that aids people with HIV/AIDS and those who are homeless. Hochul released that the store will open seven days a semaine and that all proceeds will go directly to Housing Works. They plan on eventually opening three Manhattan dispensaries.

At midday, hundreds waited to get in line to purchase legal marijuana in the state. Managers at the dispensary said that they expect over 2,000 people to visit on Thursday, and that they will sell out of product by Saturday. The New York Times.
