Rams and LAPD unite to rename youth football team

In conjunction with the Los Angeles Rams, the Los Angeles Police Department announced on Wednesday that they would be renaming their youth football team coached by officers of the police force to the “North East Lincoln Rams”. The LAPD’s outreach program for youth in Boyle Heights’ Ramona Gardens was once known as the Tigers.

The name change officially took place during the Rams’ blowout win over the Denver Broncos on Christmas day, when players and coaches of the former-Tigers were invited onto the field at SoFi Stadium during a second-quarter intermission. The new North East Lincoln Rams jerseys for coaches and players were presented to them.

According to a release put out by the team regarding the initiative, the Rams have committed to funding all football-related components of the youth team’s program, including uniforms and equipment. In addition, the team will offer opportunities to engage with former Rams players, front office staff and coaches as well as with other members of the Rams organization.

Another component of the initiative will be to “develop joint programs that focus on character development and community service to expand their knowledge and ignite their passions beyond the playing field,” according to the release put out by the Rams on Wednesday.

This partnership shows that the team is willing to go above and beyond in helping the Los Angeles community. It is also strengthening its commitment to establishing itself in southern California. In 2019, they began a similar project with another youth program in Watts, Los Angeles. Their new program will be modelled after that program.

The Rams are down to just two games in their 2022 schedule. They will now look to the future to make up for their disappointing season and continue to do good deeds throughout the Los Angeles region.
