John Oliver cursed out Emmys for cutting eulogy to his dog. What did he say?

John Oliver’s show “Last Week Tonight” took home the Emmy on Sept. 15 for scripted variety series and the host used a little profanity in his speech — but it was for a good cause.

Oliver began his speech by thanking his family — wife Kate Norley and their two children — and HBO before moving on to thank another member of his family.

“I also want to thank — this is going to be very silly — our dog. We had the most fantastic dog,” he began. “And she was at our wedding, she got us through a pandemic, she was with us for two pregnancies…” he said, trailing off as the wrap up music began to play.

“Perfect choice of music,” Oliver laughed when he heard the somber tune.

“We had to say goodbye to her,” he said, still laughing as the audience chuckled along.

“F— you!” he joked to the audience for laughing.

“I feel like Sarah McLachlan right now,” Oliver continued, referring to the notoriously sad Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) commercials featuring the Canadian singer’s song, “Angel.”

“She was an amazing dog and uh, ouch, and I guess this isn’t just for her, this is for all dogs,” he concluded. “This is for all dog — you’re very good girls, you’re very good boys, you all deserve a treat! Play me off now!”

In a 2015 piece in Vanity Fair, Oliver revealed that his pet was named Hoagie and the first dog he’d ever owned.

He told the outlet that he unwinds by taking the then-3-year-old dog for a walk “because a dog just doesn’t engage with the intricacies of the difficulties of your day.”

Oliver previously shared a photo of Hoagie when he joined X 12 years ago, then known as Twitter.

“This is my official account,” he wrote at the time. “To prove it’s really me, here’s a photo of my dog holding up today’s newspaper.”
