Since he was a child on the water, the yachter conducted extensive research to determine which yards were truly (and successfully!) promoting sustainable yachting. Sunreef was able to lure them in after visiting multiple international builders.

“The climate impact of large power yachts is significant,” the future owner told Sunreef in a recent interview. “We have taken extensive steps to impact the climate crises, therefore we could only consider a power yacht if it would incorporate technologies that are rapidly scaling in other sectors such as solar energy and electric vehicles.”

This cat is a true example of green tech. The 78-footer will feature the yard’s patented solar skin system. About 2,152 square foot of solar panels will be integrated in the hull sides and superstructure to produce up to 36kWp clean energy for the electric engines.

The craft will also be equipped with a high tech battery bank, which is 30% lighter than the industry standard. The vessel performs better than its heavier counterparts. Indeed, Sunreef says the practically silent cat has “an infinite range.” The model can be even fitted with a kite to increase the top speed, though this particular owner hasn’t added it.

The materials onboard will all be ethically sourced as well as eco-friendly. A water purifier system will be installed to provide drinking water, and an efficient DC-powered air conditioning system. According to the owner, frequent visits to the family’s yard allowed them to quickly make design decisions regarding layout, decor, and furniture.

The new cat is currently under construction at Sunreef’s facilities in Gdansk. She will be spending summers in New England and winters in the Bahamas, Caribbean and Caribbean after she is delivered.

“The Caribbean, in particular, is mostly a frontier for us, and will offer a wonderful escape from the cold northern winters,” the owner adds.
