Polk fleeing suspects cause fatal crash near Poinciana

According to Florida Highway Patrol: A Range Rover that was stolen from a Polk County sheriff’s deputy led to a fatal collision Saturday morning, near Poinciana.

The incident began in Davenport when four people in the Range Rover rammed a Polk sheriff’s vehicle and then fled into Osceola County, said sheriff’s office spokeswoman Carrie Horstman.

FHP Lt. Tara Crescenzi stated that the suspects were travelling south on Marigold Avenue, near the intersection with Peabody Road, just before 2 a.m. Range Rover’s driver was trying to pass multiple vehicles at the intersection. However, the Range Rover collided with a Honda Civic traveling east on Peabody.

Crescenzi stated that four suspects fled the scene of the accident and were later captured by three others. Crescenzi says that the driver remains at large.

At the scene, the driver of the Civic was pronounced dead. He was a Kissimmee man aged 27.
