Kwon is a lucky loser who wins his biggest title for Adelaide

Kwon Soon-woo, a Korean lucky loser, won the biggest title in his career after he defeated Roberto Bautista Agut during a thrilling final at Adelaide International Saturday.

Kwon had lost the second round of qualifying but was allowed to play in the main draw because he was a lucky loser.

The South Korean player defeated Czech player Tomas Machac, and second seed Pablo Carreno Busta. To reach the final, Jack Draper, rising English star Jack Draper, and Sweden’s Mikael Yamer won the first round.

Kwon beat BautistaAgut 6-4.

Kwon broke the Spaniard’s first service game, then used his powerful shotmaking, especially his forehand, to win the first set.

Bautista Agut immediately retaliated, breaking Kwon in the first set and raising his own service percentages for a level match at one set each.

The set was tied after Bautista Agut, 35 years old, skipped to a 3-0 advantage in the third. Kwon, however, dug deep and won the tiebreak.

After a tiebreak that ended at 4-3 to BautistaAgut, both sides traded blows and Kwon took the next four points in order to end the match.

Kwon won the second title on the ATP Tour after his victory at the Astana open in Kazakhstan in 2021. This makes Kwon the first South Korean to win multiple ATP Tour titles.

He will also climb 32 positions in the world rankings, to a career high 52.
