The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch for southern Fairfield County and southern New Haven County, predicting significant snowfall likely for Tuesday night into Wednesday in Easton and the surrounding area.
A winter storm watch means there is a potential for significant snow, sleet or ice accumulations that may impact travel.
Residents of southern Fairfield County and southern New Haven County are advised to monitor the latest forecasts.
Up-to-date official weather alerts are available on the lower left column of the Easton Courier Web site home page.
Two low-pressure systems are expected to merge over the Ohio River Valley causing a secondary storm system to form into a nor’easter storm off the Carolina coast.
The nor’easter will intensify over Tuesday night into Wednesday, producing the potential for 6 to 12 inches of snow in this area before tapering off Wednesday night.
As the storm intensifies, east to northeast winds will become strong and gusty on Wednesday, causing blowing and drifting snow and the possibility of near blizzard conditions.
